Chairman Mr. Northrop calls the meeting to order at 8:24 hrs. Roll was called, 37 members were present; a quorum. 5 members were excused and 3 members were absent and an appropiate sponsorship was present, 'Debra Sheldon'

Members were asked to remove their hats for a moment of silence for the American Prisoners of War, those Missing in Action, those Killed in Action, and for our troops deployed around the world.

Members were asked to indicate if they received their minutes of the last months meeting. A vote was taken and passed to accept the minutes.

TREASURER'S REPORT: (R. Portune): We have a balance of $366.00. From this money $200.00 is reserved for the Hat Fund, which leaves $166.00 for useable funds. BR>

SPECIAL REPORT


Mr. Airborne Don Lassen from the "Airborne Quarterly" has pasted away. He was a great supporter of the Vietnam Veterans Group of San Quentin, and he will be missed very much.



COMMITTEE REPORTS:


BY-LAWS: Mr. Hagan: there is nothing to report.

FOOD SALE: Mr. Portune: the food sale slips are out. All members who volunteered to pick up the food sale slips please hit the tiers hard this week as the food sale ends on January 31. A special thanks to Mr. Lemus and Mr. Holloway for printing the forms so promptly.

SOCIAL: We are trying to have the Social in the ARK building this year and we are trying to combine the Social with an Operation MOM packing day. We will need a generous donation from the group members to make this event happen.

COLOR GUARD: Mr. Baer: gave a report on the new uniforms for the color guard and the cost to purchase them. He will be working with Lieutenant Cramer to make this happen.

STAMPS FOR SOLDIERS: Mr. Schuhmacher: nothing new to report. We would like to clarify that the stamps for soldiers program is used stamps still on envelopes. These stamps are peeled off envelopes and are used as therapy for wounded soldiers.

REAL CHOICES: Mr. Renteria: nothing to report.

GRANTS: Mr. Singler: we have responded to the one response we received last month and are waiting.

TAB'S FOR TOT'S: Mr. Sanders: we have received many tabs from the visiting and many more from other sources.

TOY PROGAM: Mr. Renteria: on stand down until next year.

PRESENTATION BOXES: Mr. Roberts: we received thank you letters from Sergeant Major Ball Fort Campbell, Janice Yee Swords to Plowshares, Mr. & Mrs. Ron Cutting, Golden Gate Chapter 82nd Airborne Association, and Mr. & Mrs. Ash 13th Airborne. We are working on boxes for the K.W.V.A. National Director Jeff Brodeur & son Vincent to present to soldiers at the VA Florida Rehab Center.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Mr. Leavitt: we sent out 350 letters to local High Schools. We are now waiting for responses. We thank all the volunteers who helped with this mailing.

CAMARADERIE NIGHT: Thanks to Ms. Debra Sheldon for sponsoring this event. Camaraderie Night was a great success this month and all had a good time. A vote took place for the next movie. Saving Private Ryan will be shown at February's camaraderie night.

NEW BUSINESS

The Korean War Veterans Group gave an honorary membership to Mr. Vick.

The chair talked about Visitors coming to up coming events.

Two of our members will be paroling next month. They both gave a short statement.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting and seconded. The motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 hrs.

Will be on February 22, 2009.
Camaraderie Night will be February 28th, 2009.
