December General Meeting
Held in the Library on January 30, 2011

Chairman Lemus called the meeting to order at 0801 hrs. Roll was called: 30 members present, 4 members excused, 2 members absent - there was a quorum. Our Sponsor, Lt. K. Evans was present. Two of our outside sponsors were present: JLynn Manley (our webmaster) and Gloria Godchaux (Operation:Mom). Thank you all for joining us.

All present were asked to remove their hats for a moment of silence for those Missing-in-Action, those Killed-in-Action, and all other service members deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world.

All members were asked if they received the December 2010 General Meeting minutes. All members did receive their minutes and no corrections were requested. A motion to accept the minutes was requested by Mr. Spillman and was seconded by Mr. Vick. A vote was taken and the motion passed.

SECRETARY/TREASURER'S REPORT :
Mr. John Warren: We have $16.04 in our account as of 2/1/2011. We gave Operation: MOM $1,754.74, which included a $40.00 donation from a couple of lawyers. We received $10.00 from hat sales to members, $6.00 donated by Mr. Rooke, and $0.04 from an inmate that zeroed out his account.

Mr. Harry Barton: Nothing new to report.



FOOD SALE:

Mr. John Warren: Our next food sale is in May, with a delivery date of June 26. We are in the process of putting our list together. Suggestions are welcome.



SCHOLARSHIP:

Mr. David Basile: Working on getting the scholarship packets out.



VIP OFFICE:

Mr. Ronald Self: On Friday, January 17, we had a veteran’s workshop. The following reps came:

These people came and met with 27 inmates, including 11 of our group members. It is requested that more of our members come out and support these programs. The next workshop is on February 18. On another note, I am trying to get VVGSQ fleece beanies approved for us to use. I am still collecting the dog tags and ribbons forms. I will place the order soon.



COLOR GUARD:

Mr. Stanley Baer: Waiting for the new clothing for our color guard, which will be stored in the archives.



TV RECEPTION:

Mr. Geo Caffale: Nothing new to report.



HISTORIAN/WEBSITE:

Mr. Kevin Hagan: Still bringing it up to date. We have some photos to scan.



ST. JUDE’S RANCH:

Mr. Stan Baer:We have received a few cards to date.



STAMPS for SOLDIERS:

Mr. Pete Rooke: Coming along fine.



CAMARADERIE NIGHT:

Mr. John Warren: Our next event will be on Saturday, February 26 at 1730 hrs. in Education bldg. C-1. The movie will be Red (2010), 1h 51m, starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker. It is an action movie with a touch of comedy that deals with a group of retired CIA field agents that have found life after the agency. Their existence is threatened when some of the retirees are being killed off by unknown persons. The movie will start playing no later than 1750 hrs. in order for our Close-B brethren to enjoy the whole movie.



R.E.A.L. CHOICES:

Mr. Harry Barton: We are on a holding pattern. We will be back next month.



TOY PROGRAM:

Mrs. Megan Cramer was our toy shopper. Mr. Joe Pettiti helped us out with the distribution. This Holiday Season, we were able to help 210 children. Thank you so much to all of the donors, staff, and members who selflessly helped with the Holiday Toy Program. On a sad note, Santa Claus was missed by all! This committee is now stood down.

OLD BUSINESS:


Chairman Lemus asked if there was any Old Business. There was none.


NEW BUSINESS

Chairman Lemus opened the floor to any New Business.

Gloria thanked the group for the generous donation. The check came and it will be put to use for the February 12 packing day. Golden Mom Misty Stumble’s other son is in one of the units that we will send packages to this time. We plan to pack some 100 boxes.
Thank you all for the personalized notes that you wrote. They were screened by the Lt. and will be sent out along with the packages.

Mr. Kaser put forth to the group that the Catholic Chapel is getting rid of three pews. They do not want these pews burned, so they contacted us to see if we wish to use the lumber off these pews for the making of presentation boxes. The group decided that this was a good idea. The Lt. will get them moved to the Hobby Shop for the purpose.

We have two new members joining us this morning: Mr. Joseph Ryan and Mr. Greg Sanders. Mr. Sanders was a previous member who returned to us from another place. Welcome guys!

On Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 0300 hrs., Mr. Joe Diggs passed away. Joe was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was an outstanding brother and a selfless veteran who was always willing to go out and help a fellow incarcerated veteran, regardless of whether or not he was a member. Joe has moved on and he will be missed. Take care brother and rest in peace, you have earned it!

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mr. Hagan and was seconded by Mr. Barton. A vote was taken and the motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 0839 hrs.
