July General Meeting

Acting Chairman Lemus called the meeting to order at 0815 hr. Roll was called, 30 members were present, 5 members were excused and 3 probationary members were present — quorum was achieved. Our Sponsor Mr. John Wilkerson was present. Thank you! Mr. Wilkerson for accepting our invitation on such short notice to give us staff coverage to hold our July election meeting, per our Constitution and By-Laws, and for your dedication to the V.V.G.S.Q.

Members were asked to remove their hats for a moment of silence for those Missing in Action, those Killed in Action, and all other service women and men deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world. .

All members were asked if they received their minutes from last months meeting. All members did receive their minutes of last months meeting and no corrections were requested. A motion to accept the minutes was requested and seconded. The motion to accept the June 2010 General Meeting minutes passed.

TREASURER'S REPORT :
David J. Leavitt: Mr. Leavitt was called to a Visit prior to our meeting starting, therefore, Secretary/Treasurer’s report will be made at our next general membership meeting on August 29, 2010.

COMMITTEE REPORTS :


BY-LAWS:

Mr. Fernando Lemus: We recently received our approved Fiscal Year 2010-2011 Constitution and By-Laws from Laura Bowman and they will be made available to the general membership in pamphlet format as soon as possible. Additionally, the normal election procedures, Section 5: Officiating Staff: page 14; was read to the general membership to clear up any confusion about our July 2010 election.



FOOD SALE:

Mr. David J.Leavitt: On a visit and nothing to report by acting chairman Lemus at this time.



SCHOLARSHIP BANQUET:

Mr. David J. Leavitt: Committee stand down until our 25th Scholarship Banquet in 2011.



COLOR GUARD:

Mr. Stanley Baer: We are awaiting our instructions on the tentative Run-to-the-Pen event on September 11, 2010 chaired by Capt. Facio. Mr. H. Barton and G. Spillman volunteered to assist the Color Guard and their support is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your active participation in the V.V.G.S.Q.



SCHOLARSHIP:

Mr. Fernando Lemus: The Scholarship committee is now officially stood down until the 25th Scholarship in 2011.



STAMPS for SOLDIERS:

Mr. Pete Rooke: All is well and nothing significant to report.
(We would like to clarify that the stamps for Soldiers Program is used stamps still on the ripped off corners of the envelops. These stamps are peeled off the envelopes, then used as therapy for wounded Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers.)



CAMARADERIE NIGHT:

Mr. Fernando Lemus: Sergeant Moore made himself available for this event and we watched “Run Silent Run Deep” with Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster as the lead actors. Our next camaraderie night will be August 28th, 2010 and we will be enjoying another classic movie called “Blood Alley” with John Wayne and Lauren Bacal. Thanks again Sergeant Moore for your dedication to the V.V.G.S.Q.



R.E.A.L. CHOICES:

Mr. Harry Barton: We have nothing new to report at this time.



TAB'S FOR TOT'S:

Mr. Rooke: All is well and nothing significant to report.



PRESENTATION BOXES:

Mr. Chris Schuhmacher: We will have the boxes ready for our upcoming events scheduled for September 11, 2010 and for the 2010 Annual Christmas Toy run scheduled for December.





OLD BUSINESS:

Acting Chairman F. Lemus asked if there were any more Old Business. It was brought to the attention of the general membership that additional V.V.G.S.Q. hats were ordered and on their way as of this writing.



NEW BUSINESS

Acting Chairman F. Lemus opened the floor to any New Business. And, the pressing new business we had to address was electing our new Executive Body members for fiscal year 2010-2011. They are as follows:

Congratulations to all for volunteering and your active participation to accomplish the goals and objectives of the V.V.G.S.Q. for this fiscal year. The new Executive Body takes office August 2010.

The V.V.G.S.Q. Color Guard made a request to V.V.G.S.Q. Vocational Machine Shop Students, namely Dwayne Butler, Jeff Langnese, and Philip Kess, to forge and machine a new Eagle for the United States flag, and a new ball with Spooky and VVGSQ for the POW / MIA flag. Since all of the Education Department is on a two week vacation right now, Mr. Butler stated that he has taken the request under advisement, and will talk with his instructor and see what can be done when they get back to the shop

The new chairman will be selecting and asking for volunteers to chair our various committees, so please be ready to raise your hand and be an active participant of the V.V.G.S.Q.

We want to thank and wish Mr. John Blair well in his future endeavors as he paroled to Treasure Island. Mr. Blair’s tireless contributions to the V.V.G.S.Q. and the VIG is to be commended and his presence will be missed. However, we know his is in a better place now by leaving these walls. Again, we wish him well. Finally, a couple of our aging members are ill and recovering in an outside community hospital, Mr. J. Diggs and Mr. G. Botha, we wish them a speedy return and our prayers are with them along with their families at this time.







A motion was made by Mr. Bob Lott to adjourn the meeting at 0845 hrs. The motion was seconded by Mr. K. Hagan. A vote was taken and the motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 0847 hrs.
